Director of Design at UC San Diego

Don Norman is a designer with an enormous resume; professor of psychology, professor of cognitive science, professor of computer science, vice president of advanced technology at Apple, and currently acting as Director of Design at the University of California, San Diego. Norman is a huge advocate of what we now call human-centered design. He uses human, as he thought the term user was too cold. He suggest calling us what we are, people.

Norman is well known for his book, The Design of Everyday Things. In this book he describes how objects in our world should function. The simplest things that we interact with everyday should be intuitive.

"I was spending a year living in Cambridge, England, and I got so frustrated with my inability to use the light switches and the water taps and the doors even, that I wrote this book. If I continually get a door wrong, is it my fault? No." —Norman

In a video by Vox, we are explained the concept of a Norman Door. A term named after Dan Norman after he explored the phenomenon in his book. This is a practical real world example that many people have encountered often without realizing it was a problem

Norman talks about design in this on Vox, https://youtu.be/yY96hTb8WgI

Dan Norman is one of the greatest minds in design thinking, if you apply his teachings into your own thinking you'll find yourself learning more about the world everyday.
